These are transesophageal echographic images from a 47 year old woman with multiple medical problems including: bipolar disorder, diabetes, smoking and hypertension.

One week prior to admission the patient developed a blue toe and was admitted to hospital to investigate nausea and abdominal pain. A CT of the abdomen revealed bilateral infarctions of the kidneys. A CT of the chest and an MRI located but could not identify a lesion in the arch of the aorta and hence a transesophageal echogram was done.
